Good verses evil IS a rehash of everything. And it's being popularized everytime most movies come out no matter the genre.
Actually there's a reason. It's about control over what you watch. Forcing bipolar approach (religion). Making the "good verses evil" even more popular.
Reality doesn't make good science fiction (heard this by Heinlein himself long before starwars). That's why "good verses evil" is so popular in science fiction.
Try to make a science fiction movie about various life styles, none presented as good or evil, and the watchers will just get lost and not identify with any side. So the movie fails.
Now consider this. Why hasn't a movie about good verses good been made? 🤣
@DeWayfarer true, I think you're right. Hardly anything is original but I think the way you tell a similar story can help determine whether or not it's successful.
In it's day, I'm sure A New Hope was a cinematic marvel with all the practical effects used.
