Ironically, up till that time only plastic sheet svand towels were used for my bedwetting. The diapers were punishment for not making to poop in time and for the habit of leaving skids marks. After the punishment phase I was in night diapers till I was 17 1/2 for bedwetting.

@bigjohndl: Okay, then it doesn't seem such a strange punishment, if you didn't go to the bathroom in time this seems to be more a rescue than a punishment.
And surely you must have liked to wear diapers at night, and not wake up in a wet bed :-)

Did you wear diapers for bedwetting and made your mom wear them at daytime too as a punishment for something? I can imagine it helps for a short period, but then you probably get used to it and it's not a punishment anymore.
