I am very much anti shoes and pro barefoot

Definitely off. Shoes don't get past our entrance. Slippers are fine though. Thankfully I've never lived in a house where shoes were worn.
My partner wasn't brought up to remove shoes at the door. She's always left it up to people to choose. Her family take them off.
Anyway she's now a total convert to taking shoes off afywr seeing how clean my carpets are after over four years.
She's got new carpets and a sign asking everyone to remove shoes. And she's extremely strict now about it
What a change. And all for the better

Sometimes I just go inside the person's house barefoot...without wearing any shoes at all.

It's a good habit to adopt.
With those shoes maybe give her bags to wear over them
