What happened to those hydrophobic trainers (sneakers)?

I saw videos and could sworn it'd be the next big thing.

weren't those usually demonstrating a clear coating sort of thing that could be applied and not really a specific 'this is how it'll be implemented' type thing? I'm pretty sure the coatings are out, you could put them on shoes if you want to, but it's pretty expensive and tends to wear out quicker than you'd expect.

They ran away in fear when I threatened to go out in the rain.
They got scared of potentially being put on some feet...
How can they be hydrophobic if ppls feet will be sweating in them? Will it be trapping all that moisture?

The name of the trainer, (sneaker), in the USA, is associated with RABIES. So...marketing boo boo.
