Have you ever bought a pair of shoes larger than your size?

I got 2 pair of sandals and I got them a size large and love the way they fit. Have any of you done this...or am I the only weird one?

For women wearing taller heels, the prevailng wisdom was to buy a size up from your typical "flat" size.
