Have you ever used old clothes to make new ones?

There’s a whole industry of up cycling of old tees or shirts to make new clothes, skirts for the cooler months:

I make clothes from scraps of interesting fabric that people give me or I buy from a factory outlet. I started doing it when I was at school and got fed up of wearing my sisters' cast offs that never fitted me right.

No but think it will start to become more common here due to so many fabric stores closing down in the USA.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Not, but when I was a kid my Mom did a lot of sewing, resizing stuff, making thing from patterns, etc.
Ximenajacoba · 26-30, F
@ChipmunkErnie That is the best way to ensure that there aren’t mountains of clothes worn once and wasted!

@Ximenajacoba Never even considered wearing something only once, but maybe we weren't rich and privileged enough for that kind of thinking.
Galanr40 · 61-69, M
No i must admit I just throw mine away...
Galanr40 · 61-69, M
@Ximenajacoba I guess if it's the right material, otherwise throw it away...yes
Ximenajacoba · 26-30, F
@Galanr40 well everything is utilitarian if you think about it. You can restore jeans if they’re not heavily stained

@Ximenajacoba I have used old jeans to make a large floor pillow and an oven mitt. Can even make purses or scrap jackets with them.
