Bowtie? Or no?

I'm about to board the Acela train to NY Penn Station for meetings in NYC this afternoon and tomorrow. So I'm sitting here at the Providence Amtrak station and so far I've scoped four elderly gentlemen with bowties.

Two of them just look like retired guys who like to look dapper. One of them I recognize as a professor at my undergrad university here in Providence. I didn't have him, but I recognize him from around campus. Never seen him without a bowtie. The fourth guy actually doesn't look that old, maybe mid fifties. He's in a very nice suit, very expensive looking and definitely tailored. Maybe a banker?

So, do you wear bowties?
If yes, why?
If no, what do you think when you see a bowtie?

And girls... I'm asking you too! Do you wear them? What do you think of them? Or of men in them?

Let's talk fashion!

It's absolutely subjective and most probably just my own perception, but it feels a bit outdated to me? Same as shoulder straps.

However just a few weeks ago I was at some fancy-àss super modern restaurant/bar, and the waiters (most of whom were younger than myself) had both, so I'm guessing they're still popular in some circles

@Elessar conversely, I find suspenders are fine, especially with a tuxedo and waistcoat or cummerbund. A belt just doesn't look formal enough.

But I reserve white or black bowties for formal occasions.

@basilfawlty89 I'm in the "all my trousers stay in place because of my fat àss" territory, so the silver lining is that I technically won't need either 😬

@Elessar and you come from a place that's a sartorial capital. Shame. Shame!

@basilfawlty89 I know 🙈

@Elessar Bowtie and suspenders is a great look!

@sarabee1995 I am adopting this as my diurnal dress forthwith!

@sarabee1995 Yeah but still, I'd feel like impersonating my grandpa

@Elessar Your grandpa sounds like a cool dude.
