I would tell them about the person Santa is based off of, so they can see that one person can change things.

No one had to tell me Santa wasn't 'real' , like how I'd thought he was, I figured it out on my own, but learning the real story inspired me.

What Santa Claus does is very simple, but it also very powerful. The reason why it’s important for children to believe in Santa is because it teaches us to believe in things we cannot see, or touch. Throughout your life you will need this ability to believe; in yourself, in your family, friends and most importantly, in God.

I wouldn't lie to my kids about god either. Santa is just as real as god. Therefore, if Santa isn't real, god isn't real either.
