A mother is gone. An 18-year-old is behind bars. And a family will never be the same.
It started on a Wednesday night in South Bend, Indiana, MacArthur Avenue. A young man had arranged a simple watch sale through Facebook Marketplace.
The buyer was 18-year-old John Harrison Ford. But the moment Ford laid eyes on that watch, everything changed.
He had no intention of paying for it. He reached to grab it, brandished a f*rearm, and tried to take it by force.
That's when 40-year-old Jean Gragg stepped directly between Ford and her son, pushed him back and chased him off the porch.
Ford didn't walk away. He turned back and fired several sh*ts
Jean was sh*t in the head while trying to protect her son. Despite medical efforts, she lost her fight.
Police tracked Ford down at Cedar Glen Apartments. Surveillance video caught him throwing his weapon over a fence but it was recovered. He admitted to detectives that he pulled the trigger.
Ford is now charged with m*rder and many other offences. He faces life behind bars for his senseless actions.
