NYC mayors Ed Koch and Bill Deblasio (and wife Chirlane McCray - they live in my neighborhood), NYS governor George Pataki, actor Corbin Bernsen, MLB players and managers Jim Abbott, Vida Blue, Barry Bonds, Gary Carter, David Cone, Ron Darling, Kevin Elster, Dallas Green, Bud Harrelson, Davey Johnson, Jay Johnstone, Kevin Kennedy, Harmon Killebrew, Ray Knight, Tommy Lasorda, Roger McDowell, Keith Miller, Jim Rooker, Nolan Ryan, Billy Sample (a longtime friend), Art Shamsky, Lee Smith, Darryl Strawberry, Joe Torre, and Mookie Wilson.
I could list even more baseball personalities from the time I spent around the game as a journalist.
I met most of them in professional settings like press conferences, batting practice, and postgame locker rooms, so the interactions were limited.
But in all cases, I found people to be pleasant and down to earth; not that different from the rest us other than their elite talent and notoriety. Some were surprisingly (to me) relaxed and easygoing.
I could list even more baseball personalities from the time I spent around the game as a journalist.

Margaret Thatcher and Bill Clinton, the old washerwoman at a State Dinner, she was a frump and Bill Clinton at a celebratory dinner at a defence contractor I was working for, they won an award and Clinton attended as the Governor of Arkansas before he became President, he was very tall, quite handsome and friendly too.

@Soph03 No, he may well have had some but they were very discrete, I never saw them. It was a dinner at a local country club with lots of food and lots of booze. I was like 22 then so didn't care much about politicians. He did shake my hand and spoke to me for a couple of minutes. My parents were both Foreign Service so I'd met lots of politicians like him but he was the handsomest I'd met.

@Soph03 Sting was cool he was nice and talked with people
Hall,Nash and Steiner was all 3 pretty mych a-holes they wasnt interested in fans and seemed to just want to leave to go back to the motel they was at
Peyton Manning was cool i talked with him a good while he signed some stuff for me signed one of his rookie cards i had and an 8×10 picture of him when he played for Tennessee Eli was supposed to be there too but he had something else come up so he didnt show up
I have also met John Schneider and Tom Wopat
Aka Bo and Luke Duke they was both nice as well and they sang country music at the event

I've met a lot, and not all positive encounters, but maybe the coolest was Robin Williams. Just the two of us sat on an out of the way grassy knoll at an event for maybe 20 minutes. I think he was hiding. He came up to me and asked to sit down. We just chatted. Very relaxed. And unlike a lot of celebs he was curious about who I was. That's the mark of a decent person in my opinion.

Forrest Griffin. My sisters were concierge in Vegas, and I’d go with them to events they’d get to go to for free. He was at one, going down the line to take selfies with people. I didn’t want one (never watched his fights at the time), but said I’d just get a pic of him without me in it. He said he felt awkward about that. Then I felt awkward, like saying I’d take a pic of him instead of with him was creeper stuff or something. Not what he said, but I wonder. 😬 I ended up taking the pic anyway.
