I heard that some trees, like the avocado tree, don't actually make fruit indoors? I hope I'm wrong. =3

@Nightwings I've got a few avocado trees that haven't produced anything at all. Half the time inside and when it's warm enough outside. Never even flowered. Although I am a rookie when it comes to plants.

@Nightwings Some don't but some can produce fruits indoors as long as you provide the correct environment.

@icedsky They can take more than 7 years to mature enough for fruiting. But if they already pass that stage, try to make sure they can feel the winter by placing them at night in cold home spot , not warm. They need the temperature fluctuations. And at least 8 hours of direct sunlight, and maybe lower nitrogen and higher phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in late winter or early spring around now in the southern hemisphere. They can't flower with poor soil or too small containers, not enough sunlight and lack of exposure to seasonal changes.

It is trial and error. The one in the picture looks healthy to me but maybe more sunlight..the yellowing.

@icedsky are the other trees all of similar age?

@Miram I've wanted to get into indoor plants for a while now, and fruit trees are so cute. Despite it taking years for them mature, I like the prospect of them bearing fruit, or at lesst flowering, one day. Could you tell me which ones have the potential, without manually pollinating them (if any)? I find that it's so much better to ask a person, than looking these things up online, and you seem to have a lot of plant knowledge. 🩵 🌷

@Miram a spread from about 7 to 11 years. 6 trees in all. I'll take some more current pics when I get off work

@Nightwings without a doubt start with calamondin! It fruits twice a year so it is easier to learn its habits. Like avocado it does need experience bit of winter but it doesn't require sibling trees or pollination. It needs lot of day light espacially in summer and spring. And let the dirt get dry before you water it again. It is also more affordable and little more patient than other trees as long as you're not neglecting it.

@Miram That basically sounds perfect, thank you so much for the recommendation! I never even heard of this fruit before. It looks beautiful, quite similar to oranges, and the tree itself is gorgeous as well. 💓
