I Think Children Should Respect And Obey Parents

Well here in the south you better address adults properly.. That means 'yes sir' 'no sir' 'yes ma'am' 'no ma'am. My parents expect this from me, all the time. I know kids that dont have to but to be honest I am too used to it now :P

But what if we weren't taught things like the difference between using can and may? Or addressing adults? Cause I was taught to be polite and have manners, but it's not as strict.

@KandiGhostcat: You are probably fine exactly as you are

@SBelle: Quite possibly Countrygirl is not authentic but it does seem to me, as an Englishman, that there is still more respect for their elders in the South of the USA than is generally in the Global Village.

@ArtieKat: We were taught well but our lives were simple and carefree. Only a bully would treat their kids like this,

Sounds good to me, although I don't like being ma'am'ed at age 18.
And in the South, if they don't it means a sore bottom. The South is one of bastions of a disappearing civilization -- polite disciplined children who grow up to be polite virtuous adults!

@bijouxbroussard: Thank you for that - you've made me chuckle! :-)
@ArtieKat: You find that sort of thing amusing ? In the 20th century they were still doing that. 馃槓

@bijouxbroussard: I was born in the middle of the 20th century and I find it difficult sometimes now to actually believe what I know to be true. "The past is a foreign country".

what kind of country girl are you supposed to be?.. I was born and raised in the country and we dont do Ma'ams here and we dont hand out our emails to strangers-- we have lots of respect but what you are talking about does not actually exist.

lmfao!

yeh, ok.
ArtieKatM
Good manners cost nothing - it's a shame more teenagers of your generation don't have this respect for their elders.

Well I think kids should be using those names only in times of discipline and serious stuff.
updown202061-69, M
Well did you have to address your parents as sir and ma am all the time or just in the time of discipline?

I think this is the way it should be. How I was raised and how I raise my kid
