I think a pair bonded couple raising a child is definitely an asset. Much easier with two people than one.

@JimboSaturn I don't understand anything about 'pair bonding' 8-) My 8 y/o wants me and her mum back together but that won't ever happen. Her mum disrespected me so badly from day 1 of discovering she was pregnant that I don't give a rats how physically attractive she might be. Her toxic narcissistic approach to men wrecked it (for me). But I am dedicated to being the best dad with the limited resources I have.

@zonavar68 I think what I mean by pair bond is that you actually care for each other. If your relationship is toxic or unhappy, one parent is better than two.
