This will sound crazy, but I was denied a dime to buy a comic book to read while my blood was drawn. I had a weekly blood draw to monitor my Rheumatic Fever, and I was terrified of the needles. So I was permitted to buy a comic book to read, to distract me from the needle. My father had to stop at his job site to check on something on the way to the doctor's office. I got behind the wheel and was pretending to drive and messed up the settings, all of which was a big no no. So no comic book. I gritted it out, the doctor was so impressed, he gave me a dime for the comic book as a reward for being so brave.

Other than that, there was the last spanking I remember. I was about 6 and kept bugging my parents for a typewriter because I knew I could write better children's books than the Dick And Jane we were reading. My mother finally lost her temper from the nagging.

Oh, then there is the time my mother tied me to the chair out in the yard under a tree. But that wasn't so much punishment as accident prevention. I was about 4 or 5. There were drillers on site to drill the well deeper as the water level had diminished, they had this derrick rigging over the well, workers up above and occasionally dropping things. I was curious and kept wandering down, despite being told to stay away. My mother had other chores to do and finally strapped me to the chair where I could watch but be out of harm's way.

Those are the things that stand out in my memory.
