Breastfeeding after one year?

How many moms out there continued to breastfeed after a year? My twins were born almost a year ago. I never intended to breastfeed for so long but for for a couple of reasons I'm thinking I would like to continue. I've had problems with traditional breastfeeding and have been doing mostly bottle feeding. But as my twins get bigger, I think I will be more successful with regular breastfeeding. I would eventually like that bond. So I'm thinking of continuing. Any pros or cons to this?

My wife breast fed each of our three for a couple of years. The children naturally became less and less interested in it as time went on so weaning was a simple process for both parties with very little stress. They were breast fed on demand not according to any kind of schedule.

I can't think of any cons. The obvious pros are not having all that bottle washing, preparation of formula, getting the right temperature, having to cut short a trip out to get home for a feed, and not having to put up with a hungry child.

Kids need to grow physically and emotionally. They ought to be weaned in a timely manner.

@sree251 If by timely you mean at the right time, then yes of course. If you mean according to some kind of one size fits all livestock breeding program then no.

The right time is not according to your pediatrician unless she is a good wholesome mom herself. The right time is determined by maternal instinct of a wholesome mother.
