If it were me i would talk to the parent. And offer to help. Maybe get the child to school sometimes or engage them in something other than their digital devices, if that means a movie night. Game night, playing ball with them or whatever. Im not the type of person to just sit back and observe something like that without trying to help. Just today i bought Easter Baskets for all my neighbors kids and i made sure that they had a ball or some sort of outdoor toy in them.

@AngelUnforgiven I was thinking about contacting the school and DCF anonymously to ask questions. She even mentioned one time homeschooling the child but still issues may happen. Too much screentime and sleeping in a lot etc.

@OpalFlower do what you think is best. If thats what your gut is telling you. Do whats best for the child.
@AngelUnforgiven I think the best first approach is to contact the woman's parents to see if they can intervene, or any other responsible relatives, cps should only be the last resort if none can be found.

Poor example to set. And not fair on the child who may be forced to choose between loyalty to a parent and attending school.
OpalFlower · 36-40, F
@SunshineGirl Exactly my point lol. His priorities are going to be all over the place. Basically devices first over everything else. When he does come home from school he mention how he earns rewards. So that is a positive incentive so why wouldn't the child want to get up for school if he earning rewards? So it may possibly be the mother not reinforcing and sticking to routine, structures, and responsibility.

Around here in the mountains a lot of kids miss Friday at school as the parents take them to the ski hill on season passes every Friday
OpalFlower · 36-40, F
@Justafantasy If the school is in sync and ok with the missed Friday's then it is fine. But if they are not and this happens every Friday then hey.

@OpalFlower I think a bunch has to do with the kids, I caught teachers cutting school on powder days after I graduated
OpalFlower · 36-40, F
@Justafantasy Well children are a lot to handle hence to why they call in substitutes to fill in and teachers can find other jobs or work else where. But an individual child that you know personally miss a lot of days in school and they don't work yet and is only in 1st grade exhibiting concerning habits. I just hope this doesn't lead to school drop out etc to focus on other priorities then end up with a record.

Should not be missing school for that
OpalFlower · 36-40, F
@Jenny1234 Exactly! Like if she can willingly tell me that....then why not tell the school as well while we at it because when the school starts to question why the child is missing so many days when the school gets plenty of days off and he tells children and maybe his teacher that he went to the gym, played on his devices, and mom and him overslept plus always sick too but an hour later on a tablet.....

Not a good mother!
The child doesn’t have a great future

@OpalFlower Definitely, not thinking of his future, of his needs and desires
That is the worst thing a parent can do to their child, they need guidance and structure, not a buddy buddy, that child needs school, leave the gym days to the weekends.
@OpalFlower A thorough background check should catch the irresponsibilities with her own child, and could in fact flag her for a protective services investigation.
@OpalFlower If she tries to keep the child she would be arrested and charged with kidnapping.
@OpalFlower She's not telling You the truth about the $100 and other things.
