Mom's of SW....

I am taking all the advice I can get in teaching my baby to self feed. Instead of letting me feed him or give him sips he's now grabbing everything from me when he's in his high chair. Relentlessly. This is part of the process and he's learning, I know and I'm letting him him have the bowls and spoons and cups and food to feed himself. But he isn't feeding himself lol he's making a mess. I'm just worried he's not getting enough solids now. Any advice welcome, you guys always have great tips : )

I always placed mine in the high chair and gave them a spoon and had one for myself. As they watched what I was doing they would pick up the spoon and try to do it too.

Not going lie they had it everywhere but me having a spoon I could make sure the were getting something

@LilPrincess I try to give him some from my spoon and he pinches those little lips so tight. He wasn't doing this before a week ago...he was eating everything I gave him!

With my lil dude I just had to keep guiding him a bit at first. It felt relentless. But patience and making a big happy deal when the food actually gets in his mouth was key.

But Mama the messes have only begun. Have him learn to help clean up ASAP 😂

@AlchemyFox thank God I bought one of the shirt bibs. Going to get more. Because yeah all friggen over the place. Patience I never knew i had is right!! This whole adventure it's been necessary. If only I could find more for dad lmao. 🧡

That's normal. My daughter does the same.

Its sensory play. If you can get him the once upon a farm pouches, she usually eats that.

Fruit, she eats, sucks all the sugar and throws it on the floor, never actually eats it.

She loves to eat whatever im eating, so ill show her what/how i eat.

Also, she loved steak since 6 months.

No, we give her the whole steak. Its too big for her to choke on lol but she gets a piece and cant swallow it she spits it out.

You gotta keep trying even if they dont eat it lol

@darknessprevails oh I did see a video the other day of like giving a baby something to big for them to bite, a mango seed, but they can suck on it. I am gonna do that. Maybe give him a whole steak too hahaha. Aww time flies huh. 🥰

No child starves of offered the food, they learn, with a little help, how to feed themselves at an appropriate age. How old is he?

Lol ohh the messes. That's the biggest part I remember. I would put mine in the highchair and they both loved to like slap at their food. Would suck it off their fist. They actually got a lot that way. I would show them with my spoon with my spoon and then guide their hand with a spoon for them. and with with patience it eventually worked

Baby led weaning is the best. I remember having the same thought as you though. If he is hungry you will know it.

I would have a spoon and feed and I would let him have one. Sometimes he wouldn’t have any of that but other times he would let me and then try himself.

It’s a learning process but it will get better.
