To those parents who have children with additional needs, how do you cope?

My 16 year old daughter is autistic and has depression and anxiety.
Its so exhausting and so hard sometimes. Really tired of feeling so alone and isolated.
I'm so tired of being so tired.

We have three with autism. It is a strain but with the help of the Lord you get through it one day at a time.

Hi I have those three issues too , Ive also worked with special needs children and adults. Somethings that really help are giving them choices even the smallest ones mean so much to them, listening to them and having patience really ; its ok to walk away and have time out if you get fustrated. I know I had to an lot. I wonder if shes willing to go to an special needs club or summer camp , that will give you and her an break. Also , its worth seeing if anything can be put in place at school too to help her. But please never let her know your exhausted or tired , its already extremely hard for her too and shes commuincating the best way she knows how

At time's a little tough love works just fine. My parents did it with me and I do it with my own kid's

The only advice I can really give you is if there's help in your school or community to take that help.
I remember when my son was younger I got what was called respite care for a few hours a week from community mental health.
I'm not sure if your child has classic autism or is on the autism spectrum?
My daughter is definitely on the spectrum but my son was misdiagnosed and has a different mental illness.

You accept the fact your child is different. Be proud of her and allow her to be herself. Invest as much time with her as possible. Invest in her future. Be firm with discipline but understanding and take it one step at a time.

I tend to withdraw from other aspects of life and focus on the most important needs of my daughter. I don't really do anything specific to cope. It is just what life requires of me to be a good parent.

Im the 35 year old son who had a brain tumor until a few weeks ago. Idk how parents do it. Remember you are a G!
Sorry to hear that, know it can be hard as we have a special needs child in the family. Takes more than one person to handle it all.

my heart goes out to you. Autism is one that I just don't know how to cope with.
It must have been very tough for you to do so
Wow...I can well imagine.
