It is because people do not want the gospel to be preached to them or hear about how god doesn't approve of their lifestyle.

Like how some people just do not want to be around LGBT, Some people feel the same about christians.

@basilfawlty89 I remember being in some religious ed BS in elementary school.
We were told something about how God didn't like us listening to rock music. Well, THAT did not sit well with me. Especially because my favorite song at the time was "Heaven's on fire" by KISS.
I had no clue back then what it was about but I still liked it.
