Parent Vs Child

Something I have never agreed with when it comes to disagreements between a parent and child is when the parent will use “I'm the adult you’re the child” as the basis of their whole argument.

I know alot of people may disagree with me. Just because you are the parent doesn’t mean the child doesn’t get to disagree with you. A very common thing my mother used to say: “i put clothes on you back and a roof over your head and food in you mouth”

Basically just saying “i take care of you so your opinion doesn’t matter”. Which isn’t fair at all. As a parent it is YOUR JOB to take care of your kids. Making them feel guilty for having their own thoughts and feelings on certain topics just because you are doing your job, is one of the lowest things you can do as a parent.

It would be like if your boss said “I let you work here, so you can’t call off work ever”. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't think it's a case of your opinion not mattering, more a case of I've got more experience in these matters and I can see problems that you can't...

@littlelia maybe, maybe not ....

yeah, maybe wait until you have kids before you start judging parents

@SW-User It doesn’t surprise me that you’re perfectly fine with emotionally abusive “parenting tactics”. Especially given the fact you romanticize serial killers/ cannibals. Or at least you find humor in romanticizing them.

@littlelia okiee, ya lil weirdo

@SW-User coming from the person that find literal serial killers attractive. Seek therapy.
Raising kids is hard. Most young people don't realize what it takes to raise a kid until after they have one. I'm sure some people have more resources so slide through it. But it is a challenge to most and can be daunting especially when kids don't behave and do what they're told. Of course kids don't know how hard it is until they become parents so I'm not saying it's your fault for not knowing. But I'm sure she is trying.

@Spoiledbrat okay no. Shutting your kid down isn’t trying it’s the exact opposite. The excuse “you’ve never been a parent before” isn’t justification.

There are times when authority comes from experience and accepting responsibility.. And that conversation needs to be had. The parent as teacher, the child as pupil there are lessons to be passed on.. Once a child has had this explained and understands, you have a lot less difficulty getting cooperation, if not agreement.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman you completely missed my point lol.

most people want to raise a slave not free men who think for themselves
How many years have you and your parents been in conflict with each other, and is it more your mother or father? Your answer could very well explain everything.
