I think girls are different. I have two sons who are better at being adult then me at 19 and 17. Not sure how I got lucky but my kids are better teenagers than I was

@ElizabethBabe1994 I feel for you. I’m sorry. My parents ignored me in my teenage years but after I had kids we got closer. Partly because I realized things and maybe part because they accepted me. Things will get better. Hang in there. You are important

Through discipline, I'd say Lizzie. Parents are not the friends of their children, they're they're to impart the knowledge the child needs to survive and thrive. I would not worry too much about what my child thinks about me, only that they learn the behaviours necessary to their getting on in the world. That is the parental role IMHO.

I don’t have kids, but I have a niece that I’ve helped raise since she was born. Whenever she misbehaves I just sit her down after she’s calmed down and we talk about the situation and why what she did was wrong. I leave the consequences for her dad though, because I don’t like being the mean one lol

I use to get spanked if I misbehave. But if I was the parent, I would give silent treatment to my child.

@JBird That's what my dad did to me. And my bros. He gave us the silent treatment. That drove me crazy! He said it's to teach me a lesson to stop being nasty to people and that's how people are going to react if I act nasty and disrespectful. Didn't feel good did it?
I cried and said no and he was mean. He said, "I don't mind being the 'mean' dad." Smiles and walked off. That angered meds lot more but he didn't care.
