Would you like to read another rant about how my family do not listen to what I say ?

Here it is anyway.
At family functions every year, multiple times per year my older brother offers me alcohol. Every time for the past 27 yrs I have told him,"No thank you bro. I gave up drinking when I was 23 because I am/was an alcoholic."

This just blows my mind every time. For 27 goddamned yrs I've told him the same thing many times per year ! He is no idiot. In fact he is a self made millionaire. But he cannot remember this one rather important thing about his own brother. It's disappointing really.

Seems like he is deliberately trying to trip you up. I think he does remember or maybe alcohol is a big part of his entertainment culture.

@cherokeepatti I don't know Patty. He doesn't have a reason to try trip me up and after 27 yrs it's not possible. So what he does seems to indicate that he simply forgets. It's a bit weird though. Surely he would remember one of the biggest changing points in my life.

That's really not sensitive or respectful. But I guess for a lot of people they just shoot things off their mouth so that the occasion does not look empty. It's noise, laughter, movement and more noise. My brother-in-law once commented about my absence at family events : 'You must be sooo busy. What? Making millions per hour? ' I was unhappy of course but kept quiet.

@novembermoon You may be right. You're an introvert aren't you ? You seem to be one for various reasons.

How many times have people said to you,"Why are you over there by yourself ? Come join the group and have fun." Or, "Don't be so quiet, you should speak more."
I'll bet that if you speak with one person about something that has meaning then you will actually be able to talk the hind leg off a donkey.

@Wraithorn yes. I am an introvert and much of a hermit. Being with people tires me. Strange thing that I worked as a teacher for over twenty years. 😄well, being with adults in a social situation always makes me anxious. Yes, and therefore I prefer to be the fly on the wall.

@novembermoon When I think back on my drinking problem it seems obvious to me that it developed because drinking altered my introverted nature into an extrovert. That happened I suppose because drinking lowers one's inhibitions.

I discovered this at age 17. By the the time I was 23 I was an alcoholic. I ended up drunk at every social function I attended.

So I would recommend that any young introverts reading this should be aware of the dangers of drinking. It can become a habitual way of life which causes more trouble than happiness.

That’s very disrespectful of him.

@SW-User It's realy weird. Even his wife stares at him with a shocked expression and says,"What are you doing ?"
He says,"It's the respectful thing to do."
It's really odd. He doesn't seem to comprehend something.

I imagine it leaves a bit of an atmosphere in the room too. @Wraithorn

@SW-User A bit. With me doing this.

🙂

I never get why people do that with alcohol, if you quit smoking 27 years ago I bet he wouldn't offer you cigarettes😠

@SW-User It is really odd. He really seems to forget...somehow...

No, it's sad, and cruel.
