Why do some people have children and then spend their whole time complaining about them?

Maybe they underestimated the difficulty or overestimated their own abilities. Statistically speaking, parents are not that smart compared to the rest of their peers, so making that error in judgment is not surprising.

On the other hand, having children is a mixed bag. You don't have to love every single thing about a person to enjoy their presence. There's a lot of comedic value in pointing out the ineptitude or faulty logic of children. It can help relieve some of the stress that comes with taking care of another human being.

Lol. I would like to see that study.

@JaggedLittlePill Here you go: https://personal.lse.ac.uk/kanazawa/pdfs/SSR2014.pdf

From the conclusion:
more intelligent individuals are more likely to prefer to remain childless and in fact do remain childless than less intelligent individuals
@TinyViolins And the things you did not mention are the other things that factor into the less intelligent having more kids.

No access to affordable family planning/birth control or abortion facilities

No access to higher education

Having kids tends to put off any other education.

Not having kids tends to leave you more time to continue education.

A lot of factors to consider. (I mentioned only a few)

Regardless of the study. It is just one. Every study in order to continue to be valid must be peer reviewed and replicated.

So one study is just that. One. It does not definitively correlate intelligence or lack there of with having kids or not having kids. It is only a beginning that leads to more questions about whether or not intelligence and remaining childless are correlated in some way.

Your statement is not really backed up by this study.

@JaggedLittlePill That's why I specifically included the phrase "statistically speaking"

Correlation does not mean causation
