I never thought of my parents as especially strict. They, especially my mother, could be strict in some matters and in some situations but just simply Strict is not a label I would have put on her.
But times and norms were different then and the respect and obedience that parents in general demanded would by most children to day be experienced as strict.
My father used to punish my brother by spanking him with the belt and my mother consistently punished my sister and me for out misconduct by spanking us severely with her hairbrush. It was very normal and they way also our friends were punished at home and we experienced it as the most natural thing in the world that we were spanked when we were naughty. My mother was a little more consistent as spanker than most mothers I knew. She certainly made sure that we got a spanking whenever it was deserved and she did the job very thoroughly but on the other hand she always was fair and I cannot say that I or my sister ever got an undeserved spanking.

How old were you when she stopped spanking you?
I still get the belt or cane at 16.

I moved out to live on my own 12 days before I turned 18 and then my bottom was still marked after the last spanking mom had given me with the hairbrush.

In my case it was not my age that decided it but the fact that I no longer lived at home.

@karinaal: Do you think she would continued even in your 20's?

If I had still lived at home she no doubt would have done it. Actually I always wondered why she stopped spanking me because the first years I was spending most weekends and my vacations at home and there certainly were times when I would have been spanked if I had still lived there.

when my brother was 13 - 14 his spankings became rare and eventually they stopped but I know that he did get one when he was 16.
