Yes. I had a great aunt on my mother's side who'd say awful things about me and my siblings. My grandparents and my mother's siblings were kind, but this great aunt and her branch of the family rarely came around. When they did, they were as cruel as they dared. Even after that woman's death, I was guarded when any of her children were around. I've lost track of them and feel none the worse for it.
