Did your parents ever make you stick with an activity that you hated?

Did you learn to love it? Or did you ever drop an activity you in retrospect wished they forced you to stick with? For example, Piano, Football, Dance?

I wish my parents would have taken enough interest in me and what I wanted to do to actually be concerned about it.

@indyjoe Hmm so I guess since Im asking.. this is a good start for my kids?

@Trayale Of course, always take what your kids want and don't want into consideration. I would say don't force them to do thing the don't want to do, but still perhaps encourage them to try new and different things. But if they express to you things they'd like to try or do, the please encourage and support that as well. I had a next door neighbor when I was growing up that if her kids wanted to do something she would encourage and support it...but she always put a stipulation on it. If they started something and decided it wasn't for them or they didn't like it, they had to see it through before quitting. Example: her youngest son (my best friend at the time) wanted to have a paper route. She of course told him he could as long as it didn't interfere with his schoolwork/activities. He took one and did it enthusiastically for a few months. It eventually became tedious to him and he grew tired of it because it wasn't what he thought it would be. He went to her and asked if he could quit and here is what she told him....No, not until he had caught up on all of his bills (customer payments), and not until he had found someone who wanted to take it over and trained them on the route. See what I'm saying?

@indyjoe I see..completely. I am the same mom. I have supported so many of their interests but they then eventually say they hate it and want to quite. I make them finish the season..soccor or baseball for example. And then we try something else. But at this point.. I am making them stick with music. It was their idea to begin with and I think it will be good for them.

@Trayale That is the idea I was trying to convey...only you said it in a shorter reply.🤠
