When is the right time to stop breastfeeding?

Hi there fellow mum's, currently I'm breastfeeding my 2 babies who are now 14 months. With my eldest he stopped being breastfed shortly after he turned 1. The twins still grab at my top/bra etc when they are hungry so I would guess they are still needing milk.

What age did you stop breastfeeding and start with follow on milk?

Breastfeeding is for babies that cannot eat solid foods. So shortly after that’s occurred.
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit i am not sure if that is accurate though. I have yet to read or see or hear from pediatertions to stop breast feeding as soon as solids are started. It is absolutelt reduced since the childs demands/needs change with the age.

I am not a mother, and each child/mother has different needs.

A mother should not be forced to breast feed, however, should be encourged and supported/helped by all means to until whenever she can and choses too.

This is one the most imporant gift a mother gives to her child as it goes long way/science says they effects entire life.

As a bottle fed baby & long time early childhood teacher I can say what most impacts a child’s bond with mother and future is definitely upbringing, environment etc not boob or bottle. @aaaabbbb
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit i respect your opinion, however, humbly disagree. As a father of two kids (who has been very involved in their lives from conception untill now) and coming from a very large family (over 40 cousins) with tons of doctors, teachers in the family (including my own mom and dad) and my self studying child developmental Psychology. I have witnessed the miracles of breastfed babies as well kids raised on bottles (formula)...there is sure a difference. Among twins.

The long term effect i mentioned is the health benifits a child has in their first 6 months specially and then those last life time having a better base than a formula.

Formula is important for those babies who unfortunately can not have mothers milk for various reasons. I will not discount, however,a formula can not be superior to mothers milk,it will always be inferior as compared to mothers milk.

Same is for bond,in early first few months from birth boob has an amazing bond between mother and child.

One can observe that. I have seen it time over time. I do agree that a life time bond does not form just by the boob alone, with all the factors you mention play a part.

@aaaabbbb I’m glad we can both agree that how we feed a baby in comparison to everything else we provide in the life isn’t much.
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit lol. I am glad too. There is soo much in life that we cannot control. I often wonder should some people be allowed to have kids? Lol

Anways. Thank you for your contribution.
