Question for those who get into relationships with someone with a child:

So, I don't know if I'm just overthinking this or not. But do you refer to the child as your own? Or your step child?

I feel like referring to them as your step child is too impersonal after you've already formed a bond with them, but I don't want to refer to them as my child because I just don't want to answer all the questions that come along with it. I don't want to explain that actually they're not my blood child when just referring to them as a step child answers all those questions.

Am I overthinking this? Lol

It seems to me that's a decision only need to be made if marriage is involved. If not married it's your boyfriend's kid or engaged it's your fiance's kid. Once married a decision will be made whether they're going to be treated like and therefore referred to as your child or treated like and therefore referred to as a stepchild.
