@beckychandler Eek! I've had a few times when my mom has told me that smart mouths are dealt with the same no matter my age! Not to mention her picking up the hairbrush! 😲
@treadingwater
I think there was one downside to Mom's thing of getting all discipline and problems done before Dad got home. At least a little bit how she handled it.

She was very traditional – retro fifties I guess – we were told Dad worked hard, and we should not cause problems –let him rest, etc. I know they had talks I wasn't privy to on more complex adult problem. But as far as most kid problems it was just “Becky did so and so and got a spanking” and he would say something like “I hope she learned her lesson'” or a “joke” – “Oh – is that why she can't sit still in her seat.” (actually sometimes there was some truth to that). And there was the good stuff “Becky got an A on her English test, etc.”

The downside was that I got trained to never upset Daddy – not to talk to him about problems that would upset him. He was a very nice smart caring man – and I think I could have gotten a lot of good advise from him. I was a Daddy's girl, but did not dare share problems with him – because I did not want to upset him.

That is a dynamic my husband and I have tried to avoid. But as a stay-at-home Mom – I still try to avoid bothering him with the day to day problems, discipline, etc. But do not drill into the kids that he shouldn't be bothered.

@beckychandler That's so good you of it that way Becky!

I'm a stay at home mom as well and I know my husband works long and hard to support us all but he's always told me his first priority is the kids. So I always inform him of what went on during the day and usually he'll want to talk with the kids if there was a major event that day so he can get filled in from the horses mouth so to speak. I've also made sure the kids know that their daddy always has time for him no matter what and that so long as it's an appropriate thing to bring up he'll always take the time to talk with them.

It's great the girls are all daddies girls and love spending time with him and he does as well. So it's nice that he isn't just the guy who hands out the major discipline but he's also the guy you go to if you want to talk about things that maybe mommy doesn't understand as well. (My husband is more understanding about attitudes and grumpiness than I am for instance)

If we were acting up in public Mom used to rhetorically ask "Do I need to pull your pants down right here?" Of course that never happened but we knew if we didn't straighten up pronto it would happen as soon as we got home.💥 One time I pointed out to her that I was wearing a skirt not pants. Backtalk in the face of an imminent spanking is not real smart --only with profuse apologies was I able to get out of that one. 😭Today, whenever I sass Mom she will comment how not blistering my butt on that occasion is one of the biggest regrets of her life. She considers it a major failure in her career as a mother 😀

@beckychandler My mom avoided the issue with a skirt because she would either say "do you need some warning swats young lady?" or "Do I need to spank you Kathryn?" She was always very direct with her warnings

Mom would chase my older brother with a broom and yell, "I'm going to kick you to cloud nine"!

goneeee · F
Yes she swatted him but he laughed the whole time which made her laugh too.🙂

My mom doesn't really have many sayings but she is very hilarious when she uses the incorrect word sometimes and tries to be cool using a hip word from 3 generations ago.

It is all fun and games until somebody looses an eye.

"What were you THINKING"

It wasn't said as a question so much as it was an accusation.
