Relatives in the old country

I don't know any of them, but I wish I did.

my relatives in the new country don't keep in touch, much less the old..

No, they don't keep in touch unless they want something. I have one cousin who only emails every few years when she wants to come for the winter. She wants a free place to stay, chauffeur service and to be catered to all for free.
