My family and I were excited last night

My family and I were excited last night and my dad was in tears for a little bit. We got his dad's Nazi ring and rifle back. My grandfather was in during WW2 fighting for the Germans and he was taken prisoner in 1944. An American soldier took this ring and rifle from him as a souvenir. Found out he passed 2 years ago and his family wanted to give them back. My grandfather passed 8 years ago and I know he is looking down smiling. Met at my place and dad was emotional glad they did the right thing. Luckily I have a gun safe where I put them in there for safe keeping.

@lissah A bit cold -- he could very easily have been drafted and not been an actual Nazi. Not like if you were German you had a choice about serving. Hard to say if he was a supporter of Nazi policies or simple another victim of war.

@lissah I don't know, but it's the kid who referred to it as "Nazi", so maybe he didn't know better? Or maybe he and his family are neo-Nazis? I have no idea, I was just saying that we have no idea what the grandfather's situation was. Millions of Germans -- and so many other nationalities -- were drafted and had no choice but to serve. :( I always loved Andy Rooney's comment about being part of "The Greatest Generation": "We weren't great, we were drafted." Honest, though maybe not an uplifting comment.
