My Mother's Generation of Women

My older female relatives always dressed up, did their hair, matched their outfits beautifully, and wore jewelry.
My mother especially liked pins and I have many of them.
I remember her and my aunt's they always looked so put together and very charming.

My mother was a lady and acted the part, but the illusion my aunts so carefully curated often times was shattered when they opened their mouths.
Not that they were terrible people or that they were trying to fool anyone that's just the way people of their era did things
They were hilariously funny, but any air of a lady was thrown out the window when they got together.

I miss my mother very much she was a lot like my grandmother who was also a perfect lady.
I always wanted to be as kind as my grandmother was.

But, I also miss my aunt's who didn't always censor themselves and who you couldn't help laugh with when they made their witty and not always so reverent observations about life.

My mother's side of the family was very much the same as yours. 5 sisters and 1 brother. Now their mother understand buried 3 husbands. The man in the family on both sides agreed she nagged them to death. If the sisters were all together at a family gathering getting along it was her job to get them fighting. All the nice dress and makeup made no difference. The lady in them no longer existed and the men headed to the basement for their own sanity.
As a kid this was actually entertaining.

@Gibbon I loved my aunt's very much, they were the funniest ladies I ever seen.
I wonder if the lady in them got sick of the men in the men? LoL

@Justmeraeagain my experience is if they weren't arguing they weren't happy. Only one if my aunts ever got divorced so I guess they needed the men to argue with and stay happy
