My four sisters and I pitched in to get her a new iPhone.

Does your mother have in interest in that sort of gadgets?
Mine doesn't.

@helenS yes, and hers is dying. Our family is spread across the globe and we use our phones to stay connected, plus everything else. She is a very tech savvy 86 year old.

@Cyclist Thats very very cool. Many people her generation refuse to connect to new technologies. (Which is why my mom still has a landline phone... 😏)

@helenS and here I am, a hyper tech space scientist, yearning for a simpler, unconnected life. If only I knew when to put the phone down and appreciate life. I miss my life as an 80s kid, when to talk to a friend you had to call their house and be nice to their parents first. When you’d look at the paper to see what movies were showing. We were able to focus more on the things that mattered, and, we had more time to think. But then on the other hand when I first moved countries I could not keep in touch with my friends because an international call connected at $10 and would run to around $20.

@Cyclist I don't look back fondly on the days when I wasn't connected to the internet. The internet makes it possible for me to work from home, which is incredibly great, because I live in the middle of nowhere. I'm connected to my server accounts and i can do all my work without having to leave my house.
