Is sometimes good to return to some sort of normalcy. New stimuli to keep them away from too much rumination. Yes, things aren't the same, but then life goes on and there's this energy about the beginning of the school year that is refreshing.. It gives them something to hold onto, to perhaps look forward to.

You might want to have a quiet word with their teachers about any activities pertaining to the school holidays, though... just in case anything there might remind them that their dad is gone now.
