Romance is still alive!

My teenager's Friend-Who-Is-A-Boy-But-Not-My-Boyfriend came to our home yesterday bearing Valentine gifts . . a small bunch of daffodils and a 1kg bag of marshmallows. Daughter looks appalled as she assumed he would be at his rugby club all day and the visit certainly did not feature on her Saturday agenda. Nevertheless, the marshmallows were quickly and safely stowed away in her treats cupboard.

There followed 20 minutes of teenage conversation consisting mainly of my daughter talking over her friend and giving general advice on how he should spend the rest of his weekend. Her little sister wanders into the kitchen and asks Boy when he is leaving 😅 Daughter makes her friend a cheese and marmite sandwich and wraps it up so he can take it with him . . the gallant knight exits our home at some speed clutching his sandwich, looking relieved that he escaped so lightly 🤣

Daughters continue with their planned baking session. We spend a pleasant evening in front of the TV with our two favourite girls eating cake and drinking lemonade while learning about the courtship rituals of orangutans 💖💖💖💖

Meanwhile, I haven't even acknowledged the holiday simply because the only person I'm presently fond of that way is clean on the other end of the country and my emotions will not develop further than a stupid crush without her encouraging it. She clearly knows I'm into her, but the reality is as these things go I value her as a friend as well and cherish the mere association she's let me have to her. So I'm not particularly aggressive about handling the fact that this is clearly a crush.

but because I'm not really feeling it for much of anyone this year even acknowledging it is valetines quite naturally... I guess good for you if you're happy.
