One second could of ruined everything

I picked the kids up and we stopped at the store to get stuff for dinner. They wanted grilled cheese and tomato soup. I needed everything to make that.

We shopped and i was putting my son in his booster seat and he let one rip.

Really buddy

Sorry daddy i eat pickles at lunch

My daughter holds her nose. It has bad. Really bad. He giggles proudly.

Wow buddy thats awful. No more pickles for you. I grad the seat belt. I stop hearing a old lady calling out sir sir.

I turn shes holding one of my bags.

You left this in your cart.

I thank her and toss the bag in the floor board. I get in the car and pull out of our parking spot.

Dad wait. My daughter says.

But i keep going. Some idiot looking at there phone steps in front of me and i hit the breaks.

Daddy i fell.

I panic.
Holly shit i never strapped him in. I put the car in park and jump out.

I dumped my head daddy.

I apologize a 100 times as i look him over.

Daddy im ok he says getting back in his seat.

I buckle him in and again look him over.

I can't believe i left this happen. Thank god for the idiot nose deep in there phone.

Oops, bet that won't happen again.
Too much going on my friend.
Hope you are OK. Kids are resilient 🙂

He's just fine, thank goodness. I don't think I could live with myself if something did happen.
I need to slow down for sure.
Its amazing how easy it is to fuck up as a parent.
The eternal vigilance, the head full of all the 'got to dos' but also space for all the tiny moments.

When my son was little, hed be put in the stroller to walk my daughter to school.
But he was a wriggler.

Walking back home i had to cross a busy street. I check , no cars , and dip the front wheels smoothly down the curb to cross........and basically tip my son onto the road head first!😱

I was HORRIFIED.

He wasnt hurt much, a few scratches, and its funny years later as i think about what it looked like .

But at the time it shook me . It could have been much worse if there had been more cars coming .

@OogieBoogie i have played that moment over in my head a 1000 times.
So many what ifs.
If i was on the highway
If i was in a accident.
If he opened the door
If my daughter got up to help him and they both got hurt
If i got pulled over.

I know we all mess up and man this one scared me. Now i triple check to make sure hes strapped in.
