This reminds me of a story my parents used to tell me, about something that happened so long ago that I do not remember it first-hand.
We were living in the Bronx, and one day in the late 1950's my father decided to take me on a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. There was an art museum on Staten Island, and we went in to see a display of "modern art."
My father was amused by the fact that while all these "sophisticated New Yorkers" were admiring the exhibit, I said rather excitedly, in a loud voice, "These look just like my finger paintings!"
