I have nothing but support from my family and, especially my dad. Growing up, swinging more to tomboy than girlie girl I had always been daddie's little girl. Unashamedly so.
He got to live his soccer/football dreams through having a family member supporting his local team too, and when all those uncomfortable thoughts/beliefs/experiences led me to being outside normality, ie being a lesbian in principle, he - along with mum - gave me that unconditional love and support to explore my sexuality and belief systems.
So, yes, close. Very close. Don't see my parents as often as I would like to - living at different ends of the country - but we talk at least every other day.
Never a chore, always a privilege.
I feel quite sorry here, reading other people's comments, that they seem to have never had that.
😔
