J: My husband is the single most patient and wise man I might ever meet.

Years ago, and I mean when I was first pregnant, my husband Arthur bought a single plate from a thrift store. I asked him why and he said something like "You'll see". He likes to be cryptic and I've long since forgotten about it.
Years later, Our eldest daughter did something bad. She apologized for it, but more needed doing. And like every kid, she believed an apology was the end of it. No matter how I explained it to her, she was either too stubborn or naïve to understand. So Arthur takes her to the kitchen and pulls out that one plate from so long ago.
I watch in confusion as he hands her the plate and tells her to break it. She looks at me, I look at him, I tells her she wont be in any trouble for breaking the plate, just do it. And she does. She throws it at the wall and it shatters. He calmly watches the pieces fall before looking back at our daughter. He tells her to apologize to the plate. She looks back at me but I think I finally see what he's getting at. I prompt her to do it. She goes over the broken porcelain and says "Sorry for breaking you." and looks back at us. Arthur then asks her. "Is the plate fixed?" She says no. "What good is an apology if it doesn't fix the problem?" My daughter and I were both speechless. I for not believing he planned this literally over a decade ago. Her because she really couldn't answer.
She learned the lesson and managed to truly resolve the issue. I asked him if that's why he bought so long ago. And this jackass smiled ear to ear and said "I've been waiting years for that." Kind of scary he has that level of patience but I still love him.

Was it just that it was porcelain?

@DeWayfarer, however much he paid, its value was limitless. Because it taught their daughter a lesson that was priceless. And will never be forgotten.
@WolfGirlwh0r3 I said porcelain but it might have been something else. I'm not very adept in such knowledge.

@PolyamorousPlaymates I believe I sort of covered that! 😊

It doesn't matter what it actually was. What matters is she thought it was important.
