Can dysfunctional parents

Can growing up with and being abandonment by a parent i.e mother or father, even losing them via death affect a childs personality

can it cause narcissism
WhateverWorks · 36-40
There’s a correlation between abuse and narcissistic personality traits, but not abandonment specifically, no. However, someone who has experienced abandonment might have a higher probability of being exposed to the other negative experiences that has been found to increase likelihood of NPD or narcissistic personality traits.

Without a doubt. Attachment theory isn't a proven science, but there is ample data from clinical psychologists that the relationship we have with our caregivers and the traumas we inherit from them are foundational to the type of people we become later in life.

Our attitudes, our behaviors, our ideas and beliefs, and the values we place on relationships are rooted in the relationships modeled to us by our parents

Narcissism normally comes from not being taught restraint or consequences, that with enough manipulation you can get what you want

Yes it can.
Or it can causes traits that very much appear like it.
