I Recently Divorced

I am finding life difficult after divorce, after having traditional male and female roles in my marriage, and being raised the same way, so all my life really.

Now taking care of car maintainence and other things that "he" took care of is a challenge...and that includes emotionally too. I drive a car, and put gas in the tank, and that's my knowledge of cars.

I need windshield wipers, and armed with some research and help from an assistant at a store, I bought a pair that don't fit. Where do I go for someone to replace my wipers without being ripped off? I hear stories about this happening to women who don't know about cars.

Any suggestions please? I just feel so lost with all this stuff that my ex spouse attended to, along with the whole emotional upheaval that comes with divorce in old age.
I recommend stating the process of finding a shop that you can trust to be your "surrogate husband" in all matters automotive. Believe it or nothe, they do actually exist.

Feel free to ask me anything. And most auto parts stores can install the wipers for you right there in the parking lot

Most Autozone's or any other auto parts store will send an attendant out to help you with the installation, you just need to ask....

Cari, I've been divorced for more than 10 years, and I don't have a probblem being single. I know what you're saying about your car, I was a auto tech for along time. And yes some places will take advantage of women and anyone else they can.
There are plenty of sites on the net to help you with simple things like wiper blades and how they go on. You tube is full of how to videos. I'm proud to say we never took advantage of anyone, we didn't need to, we had plenty of business.
I think Walmart will put them on if you buy there

Some places that do oil changes will do wipers also. If not go to a car dealership

@jackson, just because you don't have a problem being single after 10-years does not mean that I don't have a problem being single after one-year. Apart from you being a male and me a female, I'm sure our experiences, personalities, aptitude for anything mechanical and living circumstances are quite different.

Wiper replacement is quick and easy if you know how to it, and if not, it can indeed be frustrating. Is there a friend or neighbor you can ask to recommend a reputable, honest garage in your area? You're going to need one going forward anyway. Word of mouth is really helpful in finding one.

i am a retired mechanic just ask and ill do my best to help you or tell you before hand if a shop is ripping you off but remember parts are going up all the time and its hard to find a good mechanic labor on a car is high so best pay to keep maintained than repaired later

@Rambler, would the place that inspected my vehicle replace wipers? I just have to remember the name, and I could call them.
Rambler · M
I would think so, most any shop could do it. Good place to start anyhow.

There is no one to help me. I don't have any friends here.
