Sadly one may never know what causes this.
It could be any number of reasons.
I think one must remember that the reason may not relate to them personally.
Once grieving has passed some sit back and take an honest look at your relationship.

I think people just get fed up. The scales get tipped away from good to bad and the relationship gets like an old car that isn't worth fixing.
