What's behind the falling fertility rates?

In the USA it's 1.6 children per woman (data suggest it needs to be 2.1 or higher), while here in Australia it's around 1.4 children per woman.

There are probably a heap of factors - cost of living hikes, raw costs of raising kids and being a parent, impacts on ability to work/earn singly or as a couple, far less dating and marriage than 10 yrs ago, toxicity in relationship dynamics, etc.

What factors do you think are at play here?

Is it right to criticise women (and by inference, childless couples and indeed men too) for electing to not have children? I don't think it is and women should never feel compelled or mandated to have children if they don't want to.

Will is get to the point that government incentives to have children will be devised and implemented in countries like UK, USA, Australia etc.?

It's a complicated topic, but the shortest answer I can give is that nobody feels hopeful for the future anymore because we're living in Late State Capitalism. And unlike the last time the capitalist countries were in this position, we now have the internet, so people's time is occupied with so many other things. This also goes into the loneliness epidemic. Instead of being forced to touch grass, because it's the only way to make friends, so many people are only making friends online. I do believe online friends are real friends, but we also need meat world friends, that's what leads to romantic relationships, marriage, and family.
Thats what migration is for..😷
