Harsh reality is cost of living. Many families simply can't afford to have children. The default is both people in the couple need to work full time just to make ends meet.

@Thinkingdeeper So their decision is entirely understandable.

There are also ideas or anecdotes about some couples not having children because they fear for the future, but how real or widespread this is, is probably very hard to know.
@Thinkingdeeper and fertility is very limiting. Low fertility.
