I Cut Off Ties With My Biological Family

The Spoils Of The Day... When an elderly aunt of my brother's wife died of old age,she and my brother were eager to get to her house quickly so they could have the best pick of the spoils, they never visited her once in the past and cared even less about her welfare, but they were prepared to make the long journey, now she had passed away to acquire some of her possessions.
Eagerly, they set off early that morning. They came back at sunset with grins on their faces and the grand prize of a wicker armchair which had seen better days strapped to the roof of their car."Well! at least WE GOT THAT!"

I can see this problem brewing in our family. Luckily, many of my parents belonging have already been given away by my parents while they were still alive. I am trying to distance myself from the feeding frenzy that will result once my mother has passed away, but I know I will be dragged in despite my best intentions to stay clear. One of my brothers is already working on plans to be more than his share and has already threatened to take everyone to court. He feels my mother's wealth is his wealth, although my mother is still alive -- he hasn't really stopped by to say hello to her since 2004, and yet, he still wants more than his share. He feels he is owed due to how he suffered more than other during his childhood. There will be blood.

This seems very familiar to me,my brother and his wife tried to take my share too, they refused to buy me out saying "they could not afford it!" as I live in Australia, they thought that I would simply do nothing about it ,but I was lucky I got a good solicitor, who understood my plight and was not greedy,he got them on a point of law,my brother did not think I would find out and they had to pay up,they still managed to give me as little as they could, but they had to pay me something. They too had been planning for years as to what they would get when our father passed away! An aunt had warned me about it.Thanks for commenting.

Seen it happen a number of times..Amazing how many sudden friends one can make , once dead..Sometimes within the first half a day your friends have suddenly tripled.
When a best friend died i actually gave stuff to his otherwise estranged family..Had never met them before..Later i realised i had been helping and feeding vultures who were already well-fed !!.

Sadly this is a common cause of estranged families :(
