You are too old for a babysitter, but you need someone there for overnight. I don’t believe any kids should be left alone overnight.

Make them a nice dinner one night, chicken thighs, baked potatoes and green beans and then clean all the dishes while they relax. It’s an easy no fail dinner, nuke the potatoes and steam the veggies and the chicken can be mildly spiced and will be delicious.

I don't think it does any harm. It might be nice to have some company. It depends if they treat you like a matire person, providing you are mature. You come across as being.

I’m older than you and I still have babysitters. Some are younger than me!
chrisCA · M
16 is old to have a sitter. I think your parents just want someone around so you don't burn the place down.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@chrisCA I agree.
16 is generally considered too old for a babysitter.

However, it's also worth noting that not everybody's circumstances are the exact same.
chrisCA · M
@Sidewinder There must be a reason why a teenager needs a sitter. I was left on my own at age 12.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@chrisCA I could think of plenty of reasons.

Suppose it's a 16 year old with "special needs."

Did you ever think of that?
CaliCanadianAngela · 41-45, F
Geez, I already had a tattoo at 16. No way I would have put up with a sitter
Liketobeaadult · 16-17, M
@CaliCanadianAngela I don't think my mom would ever let me get a tattoo.

You need to show them you are very responsible
Tell them you need a very expensive sitter and order a call girl!😆
Liketobeaadult · 16-17, M
@UnderLockDown My mother certainly doesn't understand this kind of humor.
TheSandman01 · 16-17, M
Have you ever given them any reason to believe that you are not mature enough to spend a night alone in the big house? All those scary noises for a whole night by yourself?
Liketobeaadult · 16-17, M
@TheSandman01 No, not really, but I think it's safer if you're not all alone
TheSandman01 · 16-17, M
@Liketobeaadult
Yes, it would be safer. And if you are uncomfortable, having another person there with you is always a good idea. 👍
Vin53 · M
Or convince them to get an 18yr old female sitter and then just enjoy being with her all night.
Cleancut · 56-60, M
I had a babysitter when I was 16 and I thought I was too old. So you might be surprised at my answer. Don't waste your time trying to convince your parents you don't need one. It won't do any good. My mom was the same as yours, very strict. I will even say extremely strict because it's not really normal to leave a teen that age with a sitter in the first place. Any parent extreme enough to do something like this is not going to be swayed by their kids arguments. Just accept it and let the resentment melt away. There is nothing you can do about it.
