Take it from someone that spent 14 years in foster hell praying everyday that i might get adopted you really don't know what your adoptive parents saved you from .
swirlie ·
@kodiac
Exactly what kind of "foster hell" are you referring to, kidiac?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie foster care system
swirlie ·
@kodiac
It is a given understanding that what you were talking about was the foster care system, kodiac!

Perhaps you could educate me about the "foster hell" that you endured in the foster care system?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie Perhaps you could get my name right?
swirlie ·
@kodiac
You know what? That was my computer's auto-correct function deciding for me what your name was which went undetected by me, kodiac.

When kodiac is typed, it comes up as incorrectly spelled which is why auto-correct decided to correct it to what it thought was the correct spelling.

The reason your name comes up as incorrectly spelled is because the correct spelling for kodiac is actually 'Kodiak' if one is referring to a Kodiak bear.

I shall go back and correct your namesake's spelling right now.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie Yes you're right but kodiak was already taken. Sorry i didn't realize it was spell check causing the problem. I call it foster hell because every placement i had was abusive in one way or another
swirlie ·
@kodiac
Then why would someone who offered their services and their home to the foster care system even bother to do that if they behaved like they didn't want anyone else around? Do those placement homes ever get reported?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie Money , fosters do get paid you know . Who would an 8 year old report it to ? The only times a social worker came around was when you're being moved to another home . If you google abuse in the foster system the facts are there .plus even without the abuse foster care is never really having a lasting relationship with any family .You're not getting a family you're getting temporary housing .First rule is don't get attached .
.

@kodiac
Why is it necessary to move foster kids around so much? Why not just place the kids in one foster home and let them live there until someone adopts them?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie Quick stat in 2022 there were 4.7 million, yes million reports of child abuse in foster care ,2000 kids died in foster care . They move kids around because they don't want them getting emotionally attached to a family . Adoption is a pipe dream very few kids that aren't infants ever get adopted ,each year older the kid gets the odds of Adoption drop by age 7 or 8 the odds are less than zero . Foster care isn't about finding permanent homes for kids .
swirlie ·
@kodiac
I never knew any of that kodiac, thanks for that excellent statistical information.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie You're most welcome ,it's not widely known how messed up the foster system is
swirlie ·
@kodiac

Maybe this would provide you with an opportunity to go in there and fix the system? Have you ever thought about a career doing that?
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie That would be awesome but it's going to take way more than one person. It's going to take politicians to make sweeping changes . I do try to make as many people as i can aware of the problem. With everything else going on not many worry about throw away kids
swirlie ·
@kodiac
One person can't do it alone, but it only takes one person to lead an advocacy group which then lobbies the government to take action. But someone has to take the lead for all that to happen and usually that someone is the one who's been there and done that and knows what the score is.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@swirlie There are people doing that but like they say it's hard to fight city hall.
swirlie ·
@kodiac
Then become the Mayor and become in charge of city hall and go from there.
