Knocked out with Melatonin Benadryl or Nyquil

I recently learned from my aunt that mom used to slip me melatonin or benadryl in water to knock me out cz she tired. To be fair she was a working mom and works a lot. She said my mom put me down most nights cz it was too much for her and i wanted to know how common is that? Any other reasons? Or other techniques? She said it is not uncommon so i dont feel mad at her for it and that i turned out fine :)
