That awkward moment when someone casually asks you how it is with the in-laws during the holidays...

In this case, they were referring to my man's parents (even though we're not married). That was pretty awkward for me and I didn't really answer because I didn't even know how. I've never met either of his parents, but his dad is dead and his mom he hasn't seen or spoken to in years. But from what I know about them, neither of his parents were ever good people, least of all to him. Hell, I'm glad I never met them and hope I never meet his mom because given what I know about her and how she's treated Desmond, I don't even know what I would do if I ever came face to face with that monster. So yeah, given everything you just read, I was pretty at a loss when I was asked that "in-laws" question. I'm certain the person who asked me was just trying to make conversation without really thinking, but I think given that it's not uncommon for people to not be on good terms with their partner's parent(s), maybe one should play it safe and not assume they are. Hence awkward moments like the one I had.
