Such a heartwarming moment yesterday ❤‍🩹

My aunt who has suffered from dementia for years, yesterday, all of sudden, raised her hand to me and smiled at me so I held her hand and sat next to her and for a moment she remembered my name…

It was very difficult not to cry but it was such a warm feeling that she actually remembered even for a split second ❤‍🩹

Cherish your time with your loved ones, you never know when you’d lose them to life, before you lose them to death ❤‍🩹

I had to move back home so I'm always around them. That is such a wonderful story about your aunt. Most of mine have passed, sadly :(

I just saw 2 stories now where an older woman and man both had these injections from Eli Lily, and it removed all of the amyloid plaques on the brain. The woman got most of her memory back, the man's story didn't really go into those kinds of details other than he was extremely grateful for the therapy and that his therapy also removed all of his amyloid plaques.

It's very promising all these new therapies coming out and what they are doing for people.

I think your aunt has shared beautiful memories with you and you've become a permanent part of those memories (during her early adulthood most likely). Even if her hippocampus lost every single memory (the hippocampus turns short term memories into long term memories), her amygdala is able to associate emotions with you. She can't recognize your identity but she's feeling happiness when you're around. Dementia is one hell of a mental disease. Your story is very beautiful and touching (i was crying a little bit while i was reading your story). My grandma from my dad's side suffered dementia aswell.

Dementia and alzheimers are such devastating diseases. My grandparents had it. It's such a happy moment when they are lucid. They might not remember these moments but you will.
